Schools offering VET to students in Years 9 and 10 in 2011

Schools intending to offer VET courses to Year 9 and 10 students in 2011 are required to notify the Board of Studies by Friday 3 December 2010.

This requirement applies to all schools with Year 9 and 10 students studying a VET course at school or with an external provider such as TAFE NSW or where students are commencing a school-based traineeship or apprenticeship in Year 10 in 2011.

Updated guidelines outlining the principles for access to VET courses by students in Years 9 and 10 and the key features of the curriculum pathways are now available. The guidelines also highlight important planning considerations to allow schools to make appropriate choices for their students in their local context.

Schools must complete a Notification of Intention to Offer VET Courses to Year 9 and 10 Students in 2011 form demonstrating that the requirements of the Board’s guidelines will be met. The notification form includes a Training Pathways Planning Tool, which must be completed for every new cohort in each industry area in which the school is planning to offer VET courses to Year 9 and 10 students in 2011.

An expanded suite of School Certificate VET Board Endorsed Courses will be available in 2011 with the introduction of three new courses providing access to Certificate I in Animal Studies, Certificate I in Creative Industries and a Statement of Attainment towards Certificate I in Construction.
