Higher School Certificate Examinations Friday 30 October 2015

Morning

Chinese Extension
Candidature: 24 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
9:30 am Ends: 11:30 am

The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Chinese to an extended-response question phrased in both English and Chinese.
Section II – Writing in Chinese (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended-response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Chinese.

Heritage Chinese
Candidature: 127 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
9:30 am Ends: 12:10 pm

The paper consists of two sections.
Section 1 - Responding to texts (50 marks)
In this section, students respond to questions based on one or two stimulus texts which may be written or recorded. Questions may integrate the skills of listening, reading and writing. Questions are phrased in Chinese and English for response in English or Chinese, as specified.
Section 2 - Creating texts in Chinese (25 marks)
In this section, students write an evaluative or persuasive or reflective text in Chinese. Students answer one question from a choice of two. The questions will be phrased in Chinese and English for a response in Chinese. Students are expected to write approximately 300 characters.

Industrial Technology
Candidature: 5586 (as at 1 September 2015)
Automotive Technologies, Electronics Technologies, Graphics Technologies, Metals and Engineering Technologies, Multimedia Technologies, Timber Products and Furniture Technologies

Begins:
9:25 am Ends: 11:00 am

There are six separate examination papers, one for each of the focus areas listed above. Each paper consists of three sections.
Section I (10 marks) consists of 10 multiple-choice questions, specific to the Industrial Technology focus area studied.
Section II (15 marks) is specific to the Industrial Technology focus area studied and consists of short-answer questions in parts.
Section III (15 marks) is common to all papers and consists of a structured extended response.

Afternoon

French Beginners
Candidature: 653 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
2:00 pm Ends: 4:40 pm

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in French. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in French and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in French (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English requiring responses in French. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and French requiring responses in French. Students answer one question.

French Continuers
Candidature: 728 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
2:00 pm Ends: 5:00 pm

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (25 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in French. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or French, as specified.
Section II – Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students read two texts written in French and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English. In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in French. Students respond in French to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.
Section III – Writing in French (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.

Modern Greek Beginners
Candidature: 70 (as at 1 September 2015)

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Greek. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Greek and answer questions phrased in English for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in Modern Greek (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English requiring responses in Greek. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Greek requiring responses in Greek. Students answer one question.

Modern Greek Continuers
Candidature: 97 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
2:00 pm Ends: 5:00 pm

The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (25 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Greek. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or Greek, as specified.
Section II – Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students read two texts written in Greek and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English. In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in Greek. Students respond in Greek to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.
Section III – Writing in Modern Greek (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.

Human Services
Candidature: 700 (as at 1 September 2015)
Begins:
1:55 pm Ends: 4:00 pm

The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (35 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended response.
Section IV (15 marks) consists of a structured extended-response question, one for each industry context. Students answer the question on the industry context they have studied.
