Languages Advisory Panel starts work

The NSW Languages Advisory Panel met for the first time on Tuesday 10 March.

This expert panel will oversee the development of a dynamic and inclusive Languages Education Policy to encourage more students to see the value in learning another language.

Chaired by BOSTES President Tom Alegourarias, the panel includes senior representatives from the education sectors, community organisations, business, industry and universities, who have a range of expertise and experience with languages and intercultural communication.

The panel will:

  • work with BOSTES to develop a new Languages Education Policy for NSW
  • harness and promote existing school and community languages education programs and providers
  • identify opportunities for school and community collaboration over languages education data and resources including student demand, teacher supply, and technologies
  • promote the value and purposes of languages education in NSW, including our position as the largest economy in Australia with close ties to the Asia-Pacific region
  • advocate for and access available Commonwealth and NSW funding to successful develop and implement the NSW Languages Education Policy
  • champion opportunities for innovation and change regarding languages in NSW especially in the education, industry and business contexts.
