Korean researchers visit BOSTES

A delegation of researchers from the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE) visited BOSTES recently to learn how NSW incorporated national curriculum into our syllabuses.

KICE is a government-funded educational research institute, which aims to raise the quality of school education and the growth of the nation's public education through research and development of school curricula and the implementation of various educational evaluations and tests.

The KICE researchers, Dr Eun Ka and Dr Joo Youn Lee, who are investigating how to improve implementation of their national curriculum, met with Paul Hewitt, Executive Director, and Howard Kennedy, Director, Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment.

“The excellent education system in Australia attracted our attention and prompted our visit and meeting with BOSTES. We believe it will assist our work at KICE, and have far-reaching implications for the Korean national curriculum implementation system,” commented Dr Ka.

Mr Hewitt said “The Korean government and people place significant importance on education – and particularly for school age children. Only recently BOSTES President, Tom Alegounarias, participated in the 2015 Australian Principals and Educational Leaders Study Tour to Korea.

“BOSTES therefore welcomed the opportunity to meet our counterparts from Korea, and share our expertise and discuss our common challenges,” said Mr Hewitt.
