Morning

Indonesian Beginners
Candidature: 29 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:10 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Indonesian. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Indonesian and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in Indonesian (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in Indonesian. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Indonesian, requiring responses in Indonesian. Students answer one question.


Modern History
Candidature: 11121 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I is compulsory. Students attempt one question from each of Sections II, III and IV. All sections are of equal value.
Section I Core (25 marks)
There are source-based short answer and multiple-choice questions to the value of 15 marks.
There is also a source-based question to the value of 10 marks. Answers are written in the spaces provided in the question booklet.
Section II National Studies (25 marks)
There are nine extended response questions, one for each National Study. Each question offers an internal choice of two. Students attempt one.
Section III Personalities in the Twentieth Century (25 marks)
There is one question in two parts which students answer in relation to their chosen personality.
Section IV International Studies in Peace and Conflict (25 marks)
There are seven extended response questions, one for each International Study in Peace and Conflict. Each question offers an internal choice of two. Students attempt one.

CCAFL languages - Background Speakers
Persian (33)

CCAFL (Collaborative Curriculum and Assessment Framework for Languages) is a national framework for the development of languages syllabuses and the setting and marking of languages examinations. Under the CCAFL agreement various state and territory curriculum, assessment and certification authorities develop examinations in a wide range of small candidature community languages.
The Background Speakers examination has three papers, all of which are compulsory.
Paper 1 (25 marks)
This paper consists of two parts. In Part A (10 marks) students listen to one text and respond in English to a number of questions relating to both the content and language features of the text. In Part B (15 marks) students listen to two texts and answer one question that requires the student to evaluate, compare and contrast the information, opinions, and ideas from the texts.
Paper 2 (50 marks)
This paper consists of two parts. In Part A (25 marks) students respond to a number of questions on one written text. Questions are written in the target language and/or English for answers in either the target language or English as specified. In Part B (25 marks) students read one text and answer one question in the target language that requires the student to respond to the opinions, ideas and information in the text.
Paper 3 (25 marks)
Students are required to write one original text in the target language. The student is expected to make reference to at least two of the texts studied from the prescribed reading list. There is a choice of three questions. Questions are phrased in the target language and English. Each question is worth 25 marks.

CCAFL (Collaborative Curriculum and Assessment Framework for Languages) is a national framework for the development of languages syllabuses and the setting and marking of languages examinations. Under the CCAFL agreement, various state and territory curriculum, assessment and certification authorities develop examinations in a wide range of small candidature community languages. Because these examinations are used nationally, they are scheduled at a time suitable to all participating states.
The Continuers examination consists of three sections.
Section 1 - Listening and Responding (30 marks)
This section consists of two parts. In Part A (15 marks) students listen to three aural texts in the target language and respond to questions in English. In Part B (15 marks) students listen to three aural texts. Questions are phrased in English and the target language. Students are required to respond in the target language.
Section 2 - Reading and Responding (25 marks)
This section consists of two parts. In Part A (10 marks) students respond in English to a number of questions on two written texts. In Part B (15 marks) students read approximately 150 words in the target language and answer one question in the target language by responding to the information, ideas and/or opinions in the text.
Section 3 (20 marks)
Students are required to write a text in the target language. There are two to four questions, of which students must choose one. Questions are phrased in the target language and English.

Chinese Background Speakers
Candidature: 705 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (20 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (10 marks), students respond to questions based on one text in Chinese. Questions are phrased in English and Chinese for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students hear two texts in Chinese. The question will be based on both texts and will be phrased in Chinese and English for a response in Chinese.
Section II – Reading and Responding (55 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students respond to one or more prescribed texts in either English or Chinese. In Part B, students exchange information in response to an unseen text in Chinese. The question is phrased in Chinese and English for a response in Chinese.
Section III – Writing in Chinese (25 marks)
Students write an original text in Chinese. There is a choice of two tasks. Questions are phrased in Chinese and English.

Italian Beginners
Candidature: 453 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:40 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Italian. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Italian and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in Italian (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in Italian. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Italian, requiring responses in Italian. Students answer one question.

Spanish Beginners

Section III – Writing in Spanish (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in Spanish. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Spanish, requiring responses in Spanish. Students answer one question.

Spanish Continuers
Candidature: 148 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (25 marks) In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Spanish. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or Spanish, as specified.
Section II – Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students read two texts written in Spanish and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English. In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in Spanish. Students respond in Spanish to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.
Section III – Writing in Spanish (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.

Vietnamese Continuers
Candidature: 127 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (30 marks)
There are two parts in this section. In Part A (20 marks), students listen and respond to recorded texts in Vietnamese. Questions are in English for responses in Vietnamese. In Part B (10 marks), students respond to questions on two texts in Vietnamese. Questions are in English and Vietnamese for responses in Vietnamese.
Section II – Reading and Responding (30 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (20 marks), students read two texts in Vietnamese and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students read a short text in Vietnamese. The task is phrased in English for a response in Vietnamese.
Section III – Writing in Vietnamese (15 marks)
Students are required to write an original text in Vietnamese. There is a choice of two questions.
