Preparing test administrators for NAPLAN

Principals and NAPLAN coordinators should ensure that final preparations are underway for the administration of the NAPLAN tests (13-15 May).

The responsibilities of the principal in preparing for test administration are documented in the Handbook for Principals (pp 18-20) with regard to:

  • appointing relevant persons to act as test administrators
  • providing test administrators with the relevant Test Administration Handbook for Teachers and all assessment materials and familiarising them with the requirements of the role, including implementation of disability adjustments for relevant students
  • ensuring test administrators are provided with a copy of the code of conduct.

While the Test Administration Handbooks for Teachers should be distributed as soon as convenient after delivery, all other test materials must be securely stored until test week.

The NAPLAN Code of Conduct can be downloaded from the PAR website.

It is strongly recommended that a meeting with test administrators is held prior to the test period, so that they aware of the protocols and procedures for administering the tests. Suggested topics for discussion include security of test materials, test schedule, preparation of rooms, recording test participation and disability adjustments. Briefing meetings should include all support staff and itinerant teachers who will also be administering the tests.
