Morning

Ancient History
Candidature: 10247 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I is compulsory. Students attempt one question from each of Sections II, III and IV. All
sections are of equal value.
Section I Cities of Vesuvius – Pompeii and Herculaneum (25 marks)
There are source-based short-answer and multiple-choice questions to the value of 15 marks. There is also a source-based question to the value of 10 marks. Answers are written in the spaces provided in the question booklet.
Section II Ancient Societies (25 marks)
There are 10 questions, one for each ancient society. Each question consists of a number of parts. Students attempt all parts of one question.
Section III Personalities (25 marks)
There are 12 questions, one for each personality. Each question has a number of parts. Students attempt all parts of one question.
Section IV Historical Periods (25 marks)
There are 16 extended-response questions, one for each historical period. Each question offers an internal choice of two. Students attempt one.

Indonesian Background Speakers

Candidature: 62 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of three sections:
Section I – Listening and Responding (20 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (10 marks), students respond to questions based on one text in Indonesian. Questions are phrased in English and Indonesian for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students hear two texts in Indonesian. The question will be based on both texts and will be phrased in Indonesian and English for a response in Indonesian.
Section II – Reading and Responding (55 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students respond to one or more prescribed texts in either English or Indonesian. In Part B, students exchange information in response to an unseen text in Indonesian. The question is phrased in Indonesian and English for a response in Indonesian.
Section III – Writing in Indonesian (25 marks)
Students write an original text in Indonesian. There is a choice of two tasks. Questions are phrased in Indonesian and English.

Afternoon


Arabic Extension

Candidature: 68 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Arabic to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and Arabic.
Section II – Writing in Arabic (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended- response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Arabic.

Chinese Extension

Candidature: 26 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Chinese to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and Chinese.
Section II – Writing in Chinese (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended- response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Chinese.

French Extension

Candidature: 192 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)

In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in French to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and French.

German Extension

Candidature: 51 (as at 1 September 2016)

The paper consists of two sections.

In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in German to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and German.

Heritage Chinese

Candidature: 84 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:40 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section 1 - Responding to texts (50 marks)
In this section, students respond to questions based on one or two stimulus texts which may be written or recorded. Questions may integrate the skills of listening, reading and writing. Questions are phrased in Chinese and English, for response in English or Chinese, as specified.
Section 2 - Creating texts in Chinese (25 marks)
In this section, students write an evaluative or persuasive or reflective text in Chinese. Students answer one question from a choice of two. The questions will be phrased in Chinese and English, for a response in Chinese. Students are expected to write approximately 300 characters.

Industrial Technology

Candidature: 5830 (as at 1 September 2016)
Automotive Technologies, Electronics Technologies, Graphics Technologies,
Metals and Engineering Technologies, Multimedia Technologies, Timber
Products and Furniture Technologies
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 3:30 PM
There are six separate examination papers, one for each of the focus areas listed above.
Each paper consists of three sections.
Section I (10 marks) consists of 10 multiple-choice questions, specific to the Industrial Technology focus area studied.
Section II (15 marks) is specific to the Industrial Technology focus area studied, and consists of short answer questions in parts.
Section III (15 marks) is common to all papers and consists of a structured extended response.
