Morning


Geography

Candidature: 4383 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I (20 marks) consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (40 marks) consists of a number of short-answer questions, which may have a number of parts. Answers are written in the spaces provided on the question paper.
All questions in Sections I and II are compulsory.
Section III (40 marks) consists of three extended response questions of equal value. Students answer two out of the three questions.
A separate coloured stimulus booklet is provided.

Japanese Background Speakers

Candidature: 22 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (20 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (10 marks), students respond to questions based on one text in Japanese. Questions are phrased in English and Japanese for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students hear two texts in Japanese. The question will be based on both texts and will be phrased in Japanese and English for a response in Japanese.
Section II – Reading and Responding (55 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students respond to one or more prescribed texts in either
English or Japanese. In Part B, students exchange information in response to an unseen text in Japanese. The question is phrased in Japanese and English for a response in Japanese.
Section III – Writing in Japanese (25 marks)
Students write an original text in Japanese. There is a choice of two tasks. Questions are phrased in Japanese and English.

Japanese Beginners
Candidature: 678 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:10 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Japanese. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Japanese and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.
Section III – Writing in Japanese (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in Japanese. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Japanese, requiring responses in Japanese. Students answer one question.

Japanese Continuers

Candidature: 647 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I – Listening and Responding (25 marks) In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Japanese. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or Japanese, as specified.
Section II – Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students read two texts written in Japanese and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English. In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in Japanese. Students respond in Japanese to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.
Section III – Writing in Japanese (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.

Heritage Japanese
Candidature: 32 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:10 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section 1 - Responding to texts (50 marks)
In this section, students respond to questions based on one or two stimulus texts which may be written or recorded. Questions may integrate the skills of listening, reading and writing. Questions are phrased in Japanese and English, for responses in English or Japanese, as specified.
Section 2 - Creating texts in Japanese (25 marks)
In this section, students write an evaluative or persuasive or reflective text in Japanese. Students answer one question from a choice of two. The questions will be phrased in Japanese and English, for responses in Japanese. Students are expected to write 500 ji.

Afternoon

Agriculture
Candidature: 1471 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I has two parts. Part A (20 marks) consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet. Part B (60 marks) consists of short-answer questions. All questions are compulsory and are answered on the examination paper in the spaces provided.
Section II consists of six questions, two for each of the three electives. The first question on
each elective is worth 8 marks and the second is an extended response worth 12 marks.
Students must attempt both questions on the elective they have studied. Questions are answered in separate writing booklets.

Entertainment Industry

Candidature: 1118 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (35 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one structured extended-response question answered in a separate writing booklet.
Section IV (15 marks) consists of one extended response question, answered in a separate writing booklet.
All questions are compulsory.

Information Processes and Technology

Candidature: 2888 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I (20 marks) consists of multiple-choice questions, answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (40 marks) consists of four questions, made up of parts, to be answered in separate writing booklets.
Section III (40 marks) consists of four questions, one for each option. Each question is made up of parts. Students answer two questions based on the options they have studied. These questions are answered in separate writing booklets.

Italian Extension

Candidature: 58 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Italian to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and Italian.
Section II – Writing in Italian (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended- response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Italian.

Spanish Extension

Candidature: 44 (as at 1 September 2016)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I – Response to prescribed text (25 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students answer a number of short-answer questions based on a short extract from the prescribed text. In Part B, the question relates to another extract from the prescribed text. Students respond in Spanish to an extended-response question which is phrased in both English and Spanish.
Section II – Writing in Spanish (15 marks)
Students have a choice of two extended- response questions related to the prescribed issues and respond in Spanish.

Human Services

Candidature: 807 (as at 1 September 2016)

The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (35 marks) consists of short response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended response.
Section IV (15 marks) consists of a structured extended response question, one for each industry context. Students are to answer the question on the industry context they have studied.
