BOSTES is inviting suitably experienced teachers to apply for the role of judge in the HSC Standards-Setting Operation.

Student achievement in the HSC is reported against standards that are consistent over time. Each year the examination marks are aligned to the performance band descriptors. This requires the determination of a set of band cut-off marks for each examination, through a process known as ‘standards-setting’. This procedure involves using teams of experienced teachers as judges.

Judging is a great professional development opportunity for teachers to gain insight into how the bands are determined.

Teachers who are applying for marking for the first time, or who have had successful recent marking experience, are encouraged to apply for judging. Most judging sessions are scheduled after the completion of marking.

Applications for judging can be made by ticking the relevant box in the marking application section of the Markers Online website. New applicants need to complete a registration form found on the home page. Once registered, applicants can log in with their user identification and password and submit an application.

Applications close Friday 18 March.
