The revised Geography Elective Years 7–10 Syllabus is now available for familiarisation and planning. Implementation will commence in 2017.

The syllabus has been revised to align with, and complement, the new Geography Years 7–10 Syllabus released in July 2015 and replaces the elective component of the Geography Years 7–10 Syllabus (2003).

Key features of the new syllabus include:

  • an emphasis on contemporary geographical concepts such as place, interconnection and sustainability
  • more emphasis on the role of fieldwork and spatial technologies in geographical inquiry
  • Life skills outcomes and content developed specifically for Geography Elective to support students with special education needs.

Consultation on the draft Geography Elective Years 7-10 Syllabus was held in Term 4 2015 and Term 2 2016. The Consultation Report for the Geography Elective Years 7–10 Syllabus is available on the BOSTES website.
