US colleges and NCAA meet BOSTES

Nine US colleges and the National Colleges Athletic Association (NCAA) visited Sydney to talk with students, parents, careers advisers and sports coaches.

While here they met with BOSTES to discuss the internationally regarded HSC.

Leading overseas universities and colleges regularly come to Sydney and every year NSW HSC students are offered places and scholarships.

During this visit, in addition to sessions for students and parents, the colleges and NCAA held a special session for careers advisers and sports coaches on athletics scholarships. Sessions were held at Hornsby Girls High School, Ascham School, Redlands College and Meriden School.

From the 2015 HSC, offers to individual NSW students included Drew University, New Jersey; Louisiana State University on a basketball scholarship; Loyola Marymount University, LA on an academic scholarship; Marist College, NY on a water polo scholarship; New York University; UCLA on an academic scholarship; and the University of Akron, Ohio, on a football scholarship.

The visiting colleges are:
University of Arizona
Binghamton University
University at Buffalo, SUNY
Colgate University
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Hamline University
University of Hawaii
Indiana University
Purdue University.

Accompanying the colleges was the Associate Director of the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Diary note:

On Monday 12 September Ascham is hosting an information session with a representative from New York University to speak about NYU, the USA Common Application process, recommendations and how to write a great personal essay.

Years 10 to 12 students and parents are invited. The event will be held in the Barnet Lecture Theatre in the Centre for the Sciences, Ascham at 6pm. Please register to attend at www.trybooking.com/226456.

Ascham is at 188 New South Road, Edgecliff and directly across from Edgecliff station. There is no onsite parking available.
