Higher School Certificate Examinations Thursday 30 October 2014
Morning
Earth and Environmental Science
Candidature: 1525 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I Core (75 marks) consists of two parts.
Part A consists of 20 multiple choice questions (20 marks) answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Part B consists of short response questions (55 marks) answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
All questions in Section I are compulsory.
Section II Options (25 marks) consists of four questions, one for each option. Students answer the question based on the option they have studied. The question is answered in two separate writing booklets.
French Beginners
Candidature: 691 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:10 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in French. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in French and answer questions phrased in English for responses in English.
Section III Writing in French (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts.
Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in French.
Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and French, requiring responses in French. Students answer one question.
French Continuers
Candidature: 800 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 9:30 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I Listening and Responding (25 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in French. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or French, as specified.
Section II Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts.
In Part A, students read two texts written in French and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English.
In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in French. Students respond in French to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.
Section III Writing in French (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.
Afternoon
Electrotechnology
Candidature: 385 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (35 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended-response question answered in a separate writing booklet.
Section IV (15 marks) consists of one structured extended-response, answered in a separate writing booklet. All questions are compulsory.
English Extension 1
Candidature: 4924 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The examination consists of three modules.
Module A: Genre
Module B: Texts and Ways of Thinking
Module C: Language and Values
Students answer two questions from the module they have studied. All questions require an extended-response and are of equal value.

Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (35 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended-response question answered in a separate writing booklet.
Section IV (15 marks) consists of two structured extended-response questions, one for each of the streams. Students answer the question on the stream they have studied.
