Development of new K-10 Geography syllabus

BOSTES has begun work on the development of the new NSW K–10 Geography syllabus. This follows state and territory Education Ministers' endorsement of the Australian Curriculum: Geography F-10 (known as K-10 in NSW) in May 2013.

In following its established syllabus development process, BOSTES will consult with teachers, key stakeholders and interested members of the public later in 2014. Details of dates for consultation will be provided through the BOSTES website and Bulletin news items.

The new syllabus will include Australian curriculum content and will retain many of the features that are familiar to, and valued by, NSW teachers including outcomes, stage statements and content that clarifies what students will learn. An implementation schedule for the new syllabus will be developed by BOSTES in consultation with NSW stakeholders to ensure that it is manageable for schools.

During development of the new syllabus, schools in NSW should continue to use the current Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) K–6 Syllabus; and the current Geography Years 7–10 Syllabus.
