Chinese delegation - Guangzhou

On 19 December 2012, the Board hosted a delegation from Guangzhou – the capital and largest city of the Guangdong province, People's Republic of China. The group of 20 delegates represented the technical colleges of the province and was led by Mr He Shilin, Deputy Chief of Bureau, Guangzhou Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

The purpose of the visit was to gain knowledge of:

  • the Board of Studies’ place in the context of NSW education
  • examination processes
  • credentialling, especially focusing on the management of vocational education.

Presentations made to the group included:

  • an introduction to the Board’s assessment and credentialling processes and Assessment Resource Centre (ARC) website – presented by Paul Hewitt, Director, Curriculum and Assessment
  • an overview of the Board of Studies in the NSW educational context – presented by Jennifer Michalski, Metropolitan BOSLO
  • a detailed account of vocational education curriculum in NSW – presented by Ian Balcomb, Board Inspector, VET.
