Higher School Certificate Examinations: Monday 14 October 2013

Morning

English (ESL) Paper 1

Candidature: 2459 (as at 1 September 2013)

Paper 1 - Language Study within an Area of Study

Begins: 11:20AM Ends 1:00PM

The paper consists of two sections.

Section I (25 marks) consists of a number of short-response questions based on unseen texts.

Section II (20 marks) consists of one question requiring an extended response.

All questions are compulsory.

English (Standard) and English (Advanced)

Candidature: 59,126 (as at 1 September 2013)

Paper 1 - Area of Study

Begins: 11:20AM Ends 1:30PM

All students enrolled in English (Standard) and English (Advanced) sit for this examination. In addition, there are separate Paper 2 examinations for each course.

The paper consists of three sections.

Section I (15 marks) consists of one question with a number of short response parts based on unseen texts related to the Area of Study.

Section II (15 marks) consists of one question requiring students to compose or adapt a text for a specified context, purpose and audience.

Section III (15 marks) consists of one question requiring an extended response based on the Area of Study.

All questions are compulsory.
