Positive Relationships Teaching Resource

On 24 September 2013, The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released national data from its 2013 CensusAtSchool questionnaire.

Since its national launch by the ABS in 2006, approximately 1 in 3 Australian schools have participated. In 2013, 23,745 students participated.

This year's data revealed bullying in schools and healthy eating habits are the two leading social issues highlighted by students.

To assist schools, the Board of Studies has produced an excellent resource titled, Positive Relationships: PDHPE Teaching Kit K–6. Schools can use the kit in teaching anti-bullying and help build resilient students and a supportive school culture.

This teaching kit has four books for:

  • Kindergarten
  • Years 1–2
  • Years 3–4
  • Years 5–6

The books contain age-appropriate information and classroom activities on important topics such as:

  • coping with changes
  • sharing
  • understanding differences in people
  • preventing bullying (including cyberbullying)
  • staying safe (including on the internet).
