Official Notice: Clarification of Naming Organic Compounds in the Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus

Teachers of Stage 6 Chemistry are reminded that the Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus (Minor amendments for the 2010 HSC) requires the use of nomenclature for organic compounds based on the rules put forward by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

The education resource for teachers Organic Nomenclature for the NSW HSC available on the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) website provides a summary of the IUPAC rules for naming the organic compounds specified in the Chemistry Stage 6 Syllabus.
