An anthology of some of the best entries received in The Sydney Morning Herald Youngest Writer: WriteOn 2012 competition can now be purchased from the Board of Studies Shop Online (search using the term WriteOn).

This anthology features a selection of Gold, Silver, Bronze and highly commended pieces of writing from the competition, written by NSW primary students across the text types of narrative, exposition, description and recount.

The anthology is a wonderful resource for teachers, parents and primary school students.

Teachers can use this anthology:

  • to showcase and demonstrate high quality writing across a range of text types
  • to assist in the teaching of particular text types
  • to showcase from classrooms, new NSW English K–10 Syllabus outcomes incorporating Australian curriculum content
  • as a comparison with the school’s writing samples, to assist with consistent teacher judgement.

Families can use this anthology:

  • to read and enjoy quality writing
  • to compare the standard of young people’s writing
  • to learn what is expected within various text types
  • as a best-practice guide to help young people improve their writing skills.

The anthology is also a great acquisition for a school or class library to use during silent reading time.

Presented by The Sydney Morning Herald and the Board of Studies NSW, this writing competition is designed to encourage NSW students in Years 1 to 6 to develop their writing skills in an engaging way.

Details on how teachers can encourage their students to enter the 2013 competition are coming soon. Subscribe to the Board Bulletin to receive the latest updates.
