Determination of non-completion of course requirements

Schools are reminded that Higher School Certificate students who have not met the Board of Studies’ course completion criteria should be issued with a determination of non-completion of course requirements by Friday, 30 August 2013. Please see the HSC, Preliminary and Stage 5 flowcharts for all key dates. These can be found on Schools Online in Memos and Documents.

Prior to issuing a student with a determination of non-completion of course requirements, a principal must issue the student with a minimum of two warning letters. The letters must outline the tasks or actions to be undertaken by the student and must be issued in a timely manner, giving the student sufficient time to correct the problem.

Students may appeal to the school against the principal’s determination. If the student’s appeal is unsuccessful at the school level, the student can request the Board of Studies to review the matter.

Please note that irrespective of a determination of non-completion of course requirements in one or more courses, students should be advised to sit the Higher School Certificate examination(s) in that/those course(s) in the event that their appeal, if submitted, is upheld.

Sample warning letters, as well as information and forms, are available on Schools Online in Memos and Documents.
