Higher School Certificate Examinations Monday 27 October 2014
Morning
Chemistry
Candidature: 11305 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I Core (75 marks) consists of two parts: Part A – 20 multiple-choice questions (20 marks), answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet, and Part B – short response questions (55 marks) answered in the spaces provided on the question paper. All questions in Section I are compulsory.
Section II Options (25 marks) consists of five questions, one for each option. Students answer the question based on the option they have studied. The question is answered in two separate writing booklets.
Afternoon
Classical Hebrew Continuers
Candidature: 35 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I Prescribed Text (Tanakh) (50 marks)
In this section there are two parts.
In Part A, students answer short-response questions on the prescribed chapters of the Tanakh.
In Part B, students answer an extended response question based on an extract/s from the prescribed texts.
Section II Prescribed Text (Mishna) (20 marks)
Students answer short-response questions on extracts from the prescribed Mishna texts.
Section III Unseen Text (30 marks)
Students answer questions of comprehension and grammar on unseen texts.
Drama
Candidature: 4783 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 3:30 PM
The paper consists of two sections.
Section I Australian Drama and Theatre (Core)
In Section I there is one extended response question.
Section II Studies in Drama and Theatre.
In Section II students attempt one question from a choice of seven questions. Each question requires an extended response.
Spanish Beginners
Candidature: 203 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 4:40 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I Listening (30 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Spanish. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.
Section II Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in Spanish and answer questions phrased in English for responses in English.
Section III Writing in Spanish (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts.
Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English requiring responses in Spanish.
Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and Spanish requiring responses in Spanish. Students answer one question.
Spanish Continuers
Candidature: 169 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM
The paper consists of three sections.
Section I Listening and Responding (25 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Spanish. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or Spanish, as specified.
Section II Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts.
In Part A, students read two texts written in Spanish and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English.
In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in Spanish. Students respond in Spanish to an extended-response question, which is phrased in English.
Section III Writing in Spanish (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.
Financial Services
Candidature: 221 (as at 1 September 2014)
Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 4:00 PM
The paper consists of four sections.
Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Section II (30 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.
Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended-response question answered in a separate writing booklet.
Section IV (20 marks) consists of one structured extended response for each of the streams. Students are to answer the question on the stream they have studied.
