Higher School Certificate Examinations Wednesday 15 October 2014

Morning

Ancient History

Candidature: 11414 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM

The paper consists of four sections.

Section I is compulsory. Students attempt one question from each of Sections II, III and IV. All sections are of equal value.

Section I Cities of Vesuvius – Pompeii and Herculaneum (25 marks)
There are source-based short-answer and multiple-choice questions to the value of 15 marks.
There is also a source-based question to the value of 10 marks. Answers are written in the spaces provided in the question booklet.

Section II Ancient Societies (25 marks)
There are 10 questions, one for each ancient society. Each question consists of a number of parts. Students attempt all parts of one question.

Section III Personalities (25 marks)
There are 12 questions, one for each personality. Each question has a number of parts. Students attempt all parts of one question.

Section IV Historical Periods (25 marks)
There are 16 extended-response questions, one for each historical period. Each question offers an internal choice of two. Students attempt one.

Classical Greek Continuers


Candidature: 19 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 5:00 PM

The paper consists of three sections.

Section I: Prescribed Text – Prose (35 marks)
In Section I students translate one or two extracts into English (10 marks). They also answer short-answer questions based on two or three extracts from the prescribed texts (15 marks). Then students answer one extended response question that may be based on an extract and that may call for comment upon the text as a whole (10 marks).

Section II: Prescribed text – Verse (35 marks)
In Section II students translate one or two extracts into English (10 marks). They also answer short-answer questions based on two or three extracts from the prescribed texts (15 marks). Then students answer one extended response question that may be based on an extract and that may call for comment upon the text as a whole (10 marks).

Section III: Unseen Texts (30 marks)
Students translate unseen prose and verse texts into English (20 marks) and respond to short-answer questions on these texts (10 marks).

 

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Candidature: 14588 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 1:55 PM Ends: 5:00 PM

The paper consists of two sections.

Section I – Core (60 marks) consists of two parts:
Part A – 20 multiple-choice questions (20 marks), answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.
Part B – short-answer questions (40 marks).

All questions in Section I are compulsory.

Section II – Options (40 marks) consists of a short-answer question worth 8 marks which may contain parts and an extended response question worth 12 marks for each option. Students answer questions on each of the two the options they have studied. The questions are answered in separate writing booklets.
