Higher School Certificate Examinations Thursday 16 October 2014

Morning

 

Information Processes and Technology

Candidature: 2810 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 12:30 PM

The paper consists of three sections.

Section I (20 marks) consists of multiple-choice questions, answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.

Section II (40 marks) consists of four questions, made up of parts, to be answered in separate writing booklets.

Section III (40 marks) consists of four questions, one for each option. Each question is made up of parts. Students answer two questions based on the options they have studied. These questions are answered in separate writing booklets.

 

Tourism and Events

Candidature: 383 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 11:30 AM

The paper consists of four sections.

Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.

Section II (35 marks) consists of short-response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.

Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended-response question answered in a separate writing booklet.

Section IV (15 marks) consists of one structured extended response question for each of the streams. Students are to answer the question on the stream they have studied.

All questions are compulsory.

 

Human Services

Candidature: 640 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 9:25 AM Ends: 11:30 AM

The paper consists of four sections.

Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.

Section II (35 marks) consists of short response questions answered in the spaces provided on the question paper.

Section III (15 marks) consists of one extended response.

Section IV (15 marks) consists of a structured extended response question, one for each industry context. Students are to answer the question on the industry context they have studied.


Arabic Continuers

Candidature: 214 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM

The paper consists of three sections.

Section I – Listening and Responding (25 marks)
In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in Arabic. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English or Arabic, as specified.

Section II – Reading and Responding (40 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students read two texts written in Arabic and respond in English to short-answer questions phrased in English. In Part B, the question is based on a short text written in Arabic. Students respond in Arabic to an extended-response question which is phrased in English.

Section III – Writing in Arabic (15 marks)
There are two writing tasks. For the second writing task, students have a choice of two extended-response alternatives.

 

Construction

Candidature: 2779 (as at 1 September 2014)

The paper consists of four sections.

Section I (15 marks) consists of 15 multiple-choice questions answered on a separate machine-scored answer sheet.

In this section, students listen and respond to recorded texts in German. Questions are phrased in English for responses in English.

Section II – Reading (30 marks)
In this section, students read texts in German and answer questions phrased in English, for responses in English.

Section III – Writing in German (20 marks)
This section consists of two parts. Part A is made up of two questions phrased in English, requiring responses in German. Part B consists of two questions phrased in English and German, requiring responses in German. Students answer one question.

 

Japanese Background Speakers

Candidature: 12 (as at 1 September 2014)

Begins: 2:00 PM Ends: 5:00 PM

The paper consists of three sections.

Section I – Listening and Responding (20 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A (10 marks), students respond to questions based on one text in Japanese. Questions are phrased in English and Japanese for responses in English. In Part B (10 marks), students hear two texts in Japanese. The question will be based on both texts and will be phrased in Japanese and English for a response in Japanese.

Section II – Reading and Responding (55 marks)
This section has two parts. In Part A, students respond to one or more prescribed texts in either English or Japanese. In Part B, students exchange information in response to an unseen text in Japanese. The question is phrased in Japanese and English for a response in Japanese.

Section III – Writing in Japanese (25 marks)
Students write an original text in Japanese. There is a choice of two tasks. Questions are phrased in Japanese and English.

 

Japanese Beginners
