WriteOn entries a great read

NSW primary schools are full of budding young writers if entries to the Board of Studies’ new competition, WriteOn are anything to go by.

Schools were asked to send their best entry from each stage and earlier this month the judging panel worked their way through more than 500 entries.  Winners will be announced shortly.

“I am so impressed with the students’ writing and that we received entries from all over the state,” said Christine Taylor, the Board’s primary inspector.

“It’s very exciting to see the quality and range of ideas expressed and the students’ enthusiasm for writing is definitely contagious.

"I’m already thinking about WriteOn 2011 and can’t wait for it to open early next year."

The Gold Award entries will be published on the WriteOn website in November and a fantastic anthology of students’ writing, the Best of WriteOn 2010, will be on sale early next year.

An excellent resource for teachers and parents, the anthology can be used for inspiration and to help students analyse and discuss what makes a good piece of writing. The judges also expect many children will simply read the book for pleasure. Look for the order form on Shop Online next month.
