Support for Preliminary course grading

With the introduction of Stage 6 Preliminary course grading this year, the Board has developed a range of support materials to assist teachers. A guide to awarding, moderating and monitoring grades and a consistent teacher judgment package are now available on the Board’s website. Student work samples demonstrating achievement at different grades have also been published for a selection of courses to assist teachers in understanding the standards. These support materials have been used as the basis of professional development workshops for teachers around the state.

Throughout Terms 2 and 3, Board officers delivered 70 workshops to approximately 2150 teachers in regional and metropolitan areas. The workshops have Institute of Teachers’ approval and many of the Term 3 workshops have been delivered in conjunction with professional teaching associations. The workshops have assisted teachers in preparing for the introduction of Preliminary course A to E grading and provided an opportunity for professional discussion about standards-referenced assessment and reporting.
